My Worst Nightmare Began April, 2001
To any protective parent that suspects their child is being abused by the other parent: I suggest that the parent not call not make any child abuse calls themselves. You can make an anonymous report or have someone else report it for you. If the child protective services has even one report made by the protective parent, they may attempt to investigate you for too many child abuse reports. Even if the rest of the reports were generated by professionals or other witnesses they will only investigate you for emotional child abuse. The reasoning behind this being; that there have been too many child abuse reports in a year and it is emotionally abusive to the child.
I also suggest that the protective parent gather as much physical and material evidence against the other parent before making any child abuse report. Unfortunately, most children and youth workers and police will not listen to anything the protective parent has seen or heard. Even though you may have seen your child being touched innapropriately, that is considered hearsay to the child service workers. They are even less likely to listen to the words of a four year old child. A wireless surveillance camera in the childs bedroom that is hooked up to a vcr could save a child from years of sexual abuse. Before you make the call, make sure you have convicting evidence.
